About us
What is StrangerFestival?
Strangerfestival is an initiative of the European Cultural Foundation (ECF).
StrangerFestival is an online and offline platform for self-made videos made by young people on issues that matter to them. We use new media and our extensive European partner network to connect these voices and the people behind them. At the European Cultural Foundation we believe video has an extraordinary power to cross and break borders. StrangerFestival develops skills and gives exposure. This project is our contribution in creating a new European narrative. We are convinced that recognizing young peoples views as important paves way for openness towards other ‘strangers’.
StrangerFestival is the name of different activities for young video makers & fans. In 2009 StrangerFestival activities are:
- Video workshops in Germany, Poland, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, Finland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania, Turkey, Greece, Ukraine
- Competition April – September 2009
- StrangerAcademy (14 - 17 October in Amsterdam)
- Industry meetings for professionals in the field of media, education & research (16 October in Amsterdam)
- StrangerAward Show (17 October in Amsterdam)
- Online archive of video stories on this website. Clever tagging links the videos and makers to each other.
- StrangerExhibition in museums across Europe
- Research on the use of video and new media for breaking borders, including an educational DVD
StrangerFestivals success depends on the outreach and diversity of our core partners: media partners, local governments, non-governmental local organizations, commercial partners, artistic and cultural organizations, research organizations and foundations. Our partners organize workshops, give funding and materials, motivate young video makers to participate, broadcast Stranger videos, advise and promote.
