Professionals meeting Strangers
A seminar for younger and older experts including sessions on user generated politics, research on young people and intercultural dialogue (with Demos), best practices in working with young videomakers (with Bekijk ‘t, Kultura Miesjka and Tarek Atoui) and new opportunities of user-generated-content for broadcasting (with MTV Networks Netherlands, BBC Blast and Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE). The Speak UP! Debate will be the final session of the expert meeting.
The Expert meetings are visually supported by Kristel Doest (Aineko), Jean Luc (3DJL), Jayo Pietrzak (v-jay), Maciel van Dijk, and Rene te Riele (teRielekst) from the VJ-Academy.

11.00 - 11.30 Welcome
11.30 - 12.30 The seminar will start with a presentation by researchers Celia Hannon and Charlie Tims from the Demos thinktank (UK) of the preliminary result of the ‘Children of Europa’ research, which is closely linked to the Stranger activities. In the User Generated Politics session, we will discuss the concept of 'expressive democracy'. In which ways can user-generated-content in general, and user-generated videos in particular, be beneficial for society and democracy? It's about young people who can easily distribute their political views through the internet, and it's about the traditional institutions that have new ways in communication with instead of communication to young people. An academic and a hands-on expert will show their views on Politics 2.0 and discuss them with the audience.
12.30 - 13.30 Lunch
13.30 - 14.30 Simply the Best is all about the best practices for working with youth and video. In a round table discussion representatives of Bekijk ‘t (NL), Kultura Miesjka (PL) and the Lebanese artist Tarek Atoui will refect on their work and discuss their methods for working with youth and video.
14.45 - 15.45 In There’s a viewer for everything an expert panel with the executive producer from BBC Blast (UK), Kaja Wolffers from MTV Networks (NL), Journalist Maria Seppälä from Yleisradio and Pelasta Maailma / Save The World (FI) will discuss the opportunities and challenges of user-generated-content for broadcasting. They will go into dilemmas such as quality versus popularity and webcentric programming.
15.45 - 16.30 Drinks
16.30 - 17.30 Speak UP! In the final Stranger debate we discuss issues you find important. Three Stranger videos that address interesting, controversial or ridiculous issues will be handpicked by the Stranger team to start a fierce discussion about your daily lives.
