Competition for StrangerAwards ends May 15. Prizes to be announced.
StrangerFestival has 3 awards:
The official StrangerAward 2008
StrangerFestival is looking for talent. As much as we value technical perfection, StrangerFestival supports a strong take on the subject. The winner of StrangerAward 2008 is the video that moves, challenges, excites or even attacks. The jury looks for views and stories they have not heard before.
All 5 finalists are invited to Amsterdam 3-5 July for the StrangerFestival (including transport & stay). Winners are awarded at the festival. All finalists are featured as part of the European exhibition-on-tour and on a DVD distributed in 20.000 copies across Europe.
The Stranger Audience Award
Finalists for the Audience Award are selected by website visitors. By voting online they select 5 finalists. Voting starts May 16 after the closing of competitions (deadline for uploading) and ends June 15.

The MTV StrangerAward
MTV has a history in showing and producing the best cutting edge creative work worldwide. The collaboration with StrangerFestival is a perfect way for MTV to see what young video artists are producing right now. We therefore issued an MTV StrangerAward. We set no limits in this category; we want to challenge youth to be different and to inspire us. Dare to change!
Winners are awarded at the festival in Amsterdam. All finalists are featured as part of the European exhibition-on-tour and on a DVD distributed in 20.000 copies across Europe. Winning video will be broadcasted on MTV.
Selection procedure for the official StrangerAward 2008 and MTV StrangerAward
On 17-18 May StrangerFestival organizes a pre-selection weekend in Amsterdam. The pre-selection jury will consist of around thirty students (media, film, youth, visual arts), young journalists and experts and members of the project staff. The films will be watched from the website with a beamer to respect the context of StrangerFestival. Stranger staff will assist the juries to make sure that all videos are watched.
As we expect 1000-2000 uploads on the website, Stranger staff will do a rough selection in advance. Final selection for the pre-selection weekend will be around 250-300 videos.
An internationally known filmmaker does final selection for the official StrangerAward 2008. MTV Netherlands’ Senior Creative Taco Zuidema does final selection for the MTV StrangerAward.
The oneminutes junior project
Theoneminutesjr project is this year a partner of StrangerFestival. All theoneminutesjr videos made after 1 June 2007 will take part in the StrangerFestival and will be awarded as part of the Stranger Awards. Theoneminutesjr categories are:
Best of the world: open category. Any topic, theme or genre is allowed as long as you believe your one minute video is the best of the world.
Inside/Out: is about the fine line between being included or excluded. It's about stereotypes and prejudices and ways to overcome these. Do you feel left out? At home, in school, in society - tell your story in one minute.
Self-portrait: Who are you? What do you stand for? What are your dreams, fascinations, fears, hopes and passions? Where do you come from? What do you see around you? Tell us who you are in your own way.
